Diabetes is the result of consistently high blood sugar levels and if untreated can lead to serious health complications. World Diabetes Day 2015 was celebrated by the GHA Team comprising the diabetes nurses,dieticians and health promotion department on Friday 13th November outside the ICC Building.
World Blood Donor Day raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. The World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners highlight how safe blood from voluntary donors can save people’s lives everywhere, and commend voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood. Many people would not be alive today if it wasn’t for the generosity of our donors. Blood is something expected to be there when needed, but only 4% of people actually donate.
The Gibraltar Blood Donation Service and Health Promotion team were at Casemates running this campaign, commemorating World Blood Donor Day; providing further information and recruiting new blood donors.
The child health awareness day provided a high profile showcase of the child health department of the Gibraltar health Authority (GHA). An elaborate display of posters and leaflets was prepared. Balloons and bibs with the GHA Logo and “I am a Well Child” were distributed to mother’s for children and babies. A Power Point presentation on the activities of the Child Health Department was also relayed during the event. The event was attended and supported by Chief Minister Mr Fabian Picardo, Health Minister Dr Cortes and Dr V Kumar, Director of Public Health.
Infection Control nurses and Health Promotion team produced various posters in support of the World Health Organization (WHO) ‘Saving Lives’ campaign promoting hand hygiene. Hand hygiene is an essential part of infection prevention and control in all settings. Hospitals are of particular concern where patient contact, surgery and infections are likely. Stickers boasting a ‘clean hands’ logo were distributed to clinical staff on the day, and several information leaflets were made available for public distribution.
